Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus)
The flower heads are dried and used in pot pourri,scented sachets and cosmetic product.the flower are considered to be alexiteria,Antisparanodic,cardiotonic,Diaphoretic And nerine.
Sowing time :- Seed should be sown in the well drained friable acidic sandy loam solian month of September to October. Optimum Temperation for seed germination is 20-30 Degree Centigrade.
Treat the seed with fungicide such as Capton and Thiram 2g/Kg of Seed.At Time of Sowing add 500g Compost And Single Super Phosphate@6-7g,Murate Of Potash 5.5g, Neem cake 50 gram and 10g boanmael At the time of pot filling.Lite watering daily until seed germination and maintain moist Condetion.
Care During Growth Period :- Carnation Plants resumes Growth in November to December months. During Growth Period It Requird 15-27 * C Temperatures. Apply NPK – 19:19:19-0.14g per plant or spray of hattrick plant nutrition around the plant @50g per plant and after 21 days it must be almost some quantity mix the water and sprayed it watered the plants at 2-3 day interwal or (0.25ml water/plant/day).
Care during Blooming Period:- Flower occurs in the month of January to end of march. For Quality Flower maintain on optimum temperature at this time is 10-18*C, Below10*C Flower do not open. Apply 19:19:19-0.1g per plant or 9.0g Single Super Phosphate, 6.8g potassium Sulphate, 2.3g intervals.
Disease management :- (1) Fusarium Wilt (2) Alternaria Leaf Spot
Precaution – 1 Add neem cake 100g per pot 2-Soil Drenching with carbendazim@0.1% 3- Bacillus subtiles as soil Application @0.5% at monthly intervals.
Pest Manadement :- (1) Aphids (2)Thrips (3) Red Spider mite
Precaution – 1 Spray infected plant parts with insecticidal liquid soap or detergent or spray the plant with Thiomethoxon 1ml/litre. 2- Control of aphids thrips and jassds a spray of 0.1% Malathion is recommended. This spray can be carried out as a preventive measure also.
Special care to be taken :- Pinching is necessary for quilty flower production. Pinching should be done bellow 5th node.Pinching should be done early morning hours. Netting Carnarion plant has the tendency to bend unless supported properly. Hence the crop need support while growing. Good support material is metallic wire woven with nylon mesh. At every two meters the wire should be supported with poles. Disbudding in standard carnation ,side bud should be removed where as is spray carnation, the terminal bud has to be removed.
